Change your Mindset, Change your Attitude
Entrepreneur (noun) en·tre·pre·neur : By the early 20th century entrepreneur appears to have taken on the connotation of go-getter when applied to an independent business owner, a quality that may also be found in the phrase entrepreneurial spirit, which began being used at about the same time.
Change your Mindset, Change your Attitude
Your mindset truly becomes your biggest asset when working in a position that involves sales and building relationships. If you are struggling to create the results you want in your life, it can most likely be linked back to your current mindset. I bet you, if you can change your mindset, you will change your attitude and you will change your results.
You can change the course of your ship, your life and ultimately your destination.
What is Mindset?
A Person’s mindset is their view of the world. Often called a paradigm. This mindset is formed by deep beliefs and values about the world for that person. Although a person’s mindset weighs heavily on their attitude, there is a clear difference between the two.
It is important to note, an individual’s mindset forms their habits of thinkinking. For example, a positive mindset breads a positive attitude, creating positive results.
Many people think they have a positive mindset, but it is much more than just smiles and being cheerful. It is something that is deep seeded inside you. Do you see the cup half empty or half full? Obviously, those who see the cup as half full have a positive mindset.
This mindset Is the result of a positive perception of life. The firm belief that the world is good and that anything is possible. If you worry you don’t have a positive mindset, the easiest way to start building one is by genuine gratitude.
Be grateful for life, for all things good, big or small. This sincere feeling of appreciation will spark something within your being that will grow over time, and allow you to alter your perception of the world around yourself and foster a positive mindset.
Having a business state of mind is the confidence to succeed, the courage to fail, the drive to persevere, and the optimism that everything will be okay. These 4 elements are the foundation of an entrepreneurial spirit. They live in the fibres of your being.
Allowing you to believe in yourself and your ability to make the right choices but having the sense of responsibility and accountability to be sound in your judgement.
It is this spirit that gives you courage to take risks and the strength and determination to overcome adversity. It is a business mindset that fuels most entrepreneurs, it creates the fire in their bellies.
What is Attitude?
Attitude and mindset play off one another. However, an attitude is a person’s view of a situation, person, place or thing. An attitude can be affected by external influences more easily than a mindset, as the latter lays deeper in the layers of how a person thinks or feels. The easiest way to understand the difference between the two is; an attitude is way of thinking and is usually something that can be witnessed or done, for example; smiling at a stranger, or taking criticism in a positive way.
This definition from Remez Sasson (n.d.) is a good general description: “Positive thinking is a mental and emotional attitude that focuses on the bright side of life and expects positive results.”
Another, more comprehensive definition comes from Kendra Cherry at Very Well Mind (2017B): “[P]ositive thinking actually means approaching life’s challenges with a positive outlook. It does not necessarily mean avoiding or ignoring the bad things; instead, it involves making the most of the potentially bad situations, trying to see the best in other people, and viewing yourself and your abilities in a positive light.”
Importance of Attitude
A positive attitude is the means in which you will cultivate results. Positive attitude therefore will produce positive results such as , respect, love, understanding, success, etc. and the same can be said about negative thoughts, they would produce, misunderstanding, anger, resentment.
Psychological theories of entrepreneurship
There are many theories of entrepreneurship. The psychological theories address the key mental and emotional qualities that drive an entrepreneur. It states that most entrepreneurs have positive mindsets (optimism), creativity and have a need for achievement. Again, demonstrating the importance of a positive mindset and attitude when working towards any goal.
Locus of control
Locus of Control as a principle was originated by Julian Rotter in 1954. It is a fancy way to explain why a person’s mindset let’s them win in life verses those that feel like a victim of the world.”Rotter’s theory holds that people with a strong internal locus of control believe their actions can influence the external world and research suggests most entrepreneurs possess this trait.”
Locus of internal control vs locus of external control
Any easy test to see where you fall in the spectrum of control. Picture a time in you life where you attempted something and did not win. For example: you have interview for a promotion at work or a new job, but you fail to secure the position.
From the list below, what is the most likely reason you did not succeed?
a) Your ability.
b) It was too hard.
c) You didn’t try hard enough.
d) Bad luck.
If you answered a or c, you likely have a high internal locus. Meaning you likely have more confidence and believe you can influence the things around you. You are more comfortable creating your own narrative in life and know that you can control your outcomes.
Positive Thinking Books
“Millions of readers have acquired the secrets of success through The Magic of Thinking Big. Achieve everything you always wanted: financial security, power and influence, the ideal job, satisfying relationships, and a rewarding, happy life.”
“This stuff is hard to articulate but Claude does a wonderful job of doing so. If you’ve experienced this process in action you know what he is talking about but if you haven’t it sounds a little far fetched. You can’t just think I want a million dollars and have it show up, it’s very intense and you have to focus with a great deal of intensity with no doubt in your mind but it does work. There are a lot of books on this subject from Joseph Murphy, Florence Scovel Shinn etc. and they are all along the same lines. I like this one because the authors passion for the subject comes through loud and clear which makes reading the book a pleasure.”
“In this phenomenal bestseller, “written with the sole objective of helping the reader achieve a happy, satisfying, and worthwhile life,” Dr. Peale demonstrates the power of faith in action. With the practical techniques outlined in this book, you can energize your life—and give yourself the initiative needed to carry out your ambitions and hopes”
